Police: Woman Claims God Told Her To Drive 100 MPH

FORT PIERCE, Fla. (CBS Tampa) — Police say a woman was told by God to drive 100 mph in a 30-mph zone.

WFTS-TV reports Fort Pierce authorities arrested 41-year-old Melissa Miller Tuesday for speeding and leaving the scene of the accident.

According to a police report obtained by the station, authorities tried to pull over Miller while she was pushing the car’s horn while speeding down U.S. 1 with her arm stuck out the window. When the officer pursued her, she accelerated, almost hitting vehicles while swerving and hitting a curb.

When the officer finally reached her, she said she was speeding because she was letting the “Lord spirit guide me” and that the “Lord was telling me to do it,” WFTS reports.

Miller was charged with reckless driving and leaving the scene of an accident with injury. She is being held on $375 bond at St. Lucie County Jail.

Vietnam Veterans' Bond Forged Again With Kidney DonationServing together in Vietnam, John Middaugh and Henry "Bill" Warner forged an Army-brothers bond they knew was profound and lasting. A world and nearly a half a century away from the war zone where they'd counted on each other, Middaugh put himself on the line for Warner this month in a new way: by giving one of his kidneys.
