WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (CBS Tampa) — An illegal immigrant is accused of using a cell phone to record women in the bathroom.
WPEC-TV reports that Marco Antonio Bartolon-Velasquez, 26, who worked for a cleaning crew, admitted to West Palm Beach police that he has been living in the country illegally for the past four years after his phone was found in the bathroom of a JC Penney at the Palm Beach Mall.
A police report states that a loss prevention officer found the cell phone in an exhaust fan that was pushed up into the ceiling, according to the station.
After the officer saw that the phone’s settings were in Spanish, she called the number of a member on the contracted cleaning crew, which turned out to be the number for Bartolon-Velasquez.
The South Florida Sun-Sentinel reports that Bartolon-Velasquez was going by his brother’s name of “Raphael Dieguez.” He first denied owning the phone but then later told authorities that he planted it in the women’s bathroom to watch over other employees.
“He went on to say that he had only done it today to monitor how well his employees were cleaning,” the police report states, according to the paper.
He reportedly claims he had been taping employees since last Christmas.
Bartolon-Velasquez has been charged with video voyeurism.
