Snooki, JWoww and DJ Pauly D are showing their support for their second home on the Jersey shore.
Superstorm Sandy hit Seaside Heights, New Jersey, the backdrop for MTV’s Jersey Shore, on Monday night, flooding more than 80 percent of the shore area and destroying the infamous piers and boardwalks. A roller coaster from Casino Pier was even left floating in the ocean.
And Seaside is now officially on an island, as the storm cut a new inlet into what was a peninsula, just north of the shore house up Route 35 in Mantoloking (for JS fans, this means you can no longer drive along the ocean from Seaside to Point Pleasant, home of Jenkinson’s and Martell’s Tiki Bar). The Mathis Bridge, seen so many times in aerial shots and as the crew drove over the Barnegat Bay from Toms River, also sustained damage and has been declared unsafe.
The storm wiped out power for roughly eight million people in the mid-Atlantic, with 2.7 million customers in Jersey alone left in the dark. It’s expected to be days or even weeks before power will be restored.
President Obama has declared eight counties along the coast of New Jersey major disaster areas and toured those areas with the state’s governor, Chris Christie, Wednesday (October 31).
After the tour, Christie addressed New Jerseyans asking for patience when it came to the recovery process.
“Good news for all of us is that the President couldn’t have been better today,” the governor said. “He wanted to make sure that there was nothing that we asked for that we didn’t get,” including defense equipment. “He made it very clear to me today that getting New Jersey back to normal is his top priority, and it’s my top priority, too. We had a good day.”
The President said FEMA has expedited the process of delivering aid and had 2,000 personnel on the ground in the state by the end of Wednesday.
“We are here for you, and we will not forget. We will follow up to make sure that you get all the help you need until you have been rebuilt,” Obama said during a news conference.
Though Sandy did not take out the house where the Jersey Shore castmates stayed for four of the show’s five seasons, the storm did destroy a few of their usual hangouts like Bubba Dog House and Lucky Leo’s Arcade on the boardwalk, along with collapsing 50 feet of the FunTown Pier.
“Sandy destroyed Seaside — our second home,” Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi said in a statement to MTV News. “It’s devastating to see our boardwalk and favorite spots ruined. My prayers go out to everyone affected by the storm.”
Vinny Guadagnino also sent his thoughts to his second home in Jersey, “My thoughts and prayers go out to everyone who was affected by this disaster in Seaside and all across the Northeast. I’m here to support in any way I can.”
He later took to Twitter to not only talk about the destruction, but to thank the heroes of the storm.
Just saw our Police Chief Boyd of Seaside on the news risking his life to save people. #HERO—

“My thoughts and prayers go out to everyone affected by Hurricane Sandy, especially our friends and family in Seaside Heights, N.J.,” said Paul “Pauly D” DelVecchio. “A huge thank you to all the men and women who have been working around the clock to protect and help everyone, true heroes.”
Jenni “JWoww” Farley might have been in L.A. during the storm, but her mind was focused on Jersey where her fiancé Roger Matthews and dog were.
Matthews later tweeted to his bride-to-be, asking that the cast get together and find a way to help.
@JENNIWOWW Come home. Make me smile. Talk to the rest of your roomies. Let's do something for Seaside to help. That town was good to you all—

Danny Merk, the owner of the house and the Shore Store where the cast worked, told ABC News from Florida, where he was staying during the storm, that he plans to fix the house, which he believes suffered flooding damage from Sandy.
“We’re going to buy supplies here in Florida and we’re going to come there with plywood and drywall and attack it, do the best job we can possibly do,” he said.
On Twitter, some people have started to question what the cast plans to do for the shore, Snooki has pledged to help the state with a donation, though she has not announced how much that will be as of this time.
As for now though, she has found another way to help the victims.
Cleaning my closet today to donate clothes and whatever I can do the victims affected by sandy! I'm comin with clothes!!!!—

MTV released a statement to CNN saying:
“Our thoughts and prayers go out to all of those affected by the hurricane, especially our friends and business owners in Seaside Heights, New Jersey, who are now part of the MTV family. MTV is actively exploring ways to best help with the recovery efforts, and in the meantime we are encouraging everyone to donate to the American Red Cross’ disaster relief efforts.”
