Former American Idol contestant Colton Dixon has been keeping busy readying the release of his new single “You Are,” out on iTunes today. On a recent visit to CBS Local he filled us in on one of his favorite Halloween costumes.

“Man, I was always the kid at 7 through 12-years-old who ran around as different horror classic characters,” the 21-year-old recalled. “I love Halloween, it’s my favorite. I love the adrenaline rush of getting scared. I’m trying to catch all the different horror movies in theaters right now.”

So what has been his favorite costume?

“I think Batman has to be my favorite costume. I’m a huge Batman nerd. I’m sure I’ve been Batman for Halloween more than four times,” he said.

Shortly after though he recalled another costume and Halloween that he’ll always remember.

“Actually, I take that back. I was Joker when I was really little. Funny story. I looked just like Jack Nicholson’s Joker on a four-year-old kid. It was awesome!”

Unfortunately for his parents, it’s one Halloween they’ll never forget.

“My mom put on a white latex instead of a white cream so [the makeup] wouldn’t come off,” he recalled. “But it didn’t come off!”

His parents rushed him to the emergency room to get his makeup off.

“My mom was scared to death that I was going to look like Joker for the rest of my life,” he said. “They put soap and water on my face and it came right off. My parents felt kind of dumb but it was an awesome experience. I was like, ‘Sweet, I’m going to be Jack Nicholson for the rest of my life!’ That was a lot of fun.”

So will Colton be dressing up as Joker again this Halloween?

“I actually just had a surprise birthday party last week, I just turned 21,” he said. “I ran into the back corner of my house and all my friends and family were dressed up in costume. My dad is bald and he had a full head of hair. He looked like one of those goat creatures from The Chronicles of Narnia. So I went up and of course had Batmen gear lying around my room so I threw that on.”

Colon’s new single “You Are” was released today.
