SHALIMAR, Fla. (AP) — School officials say counselors were sent to an elementary school in northwest Florida after students found a body in woods behind the playground.
Five or six fifth graders found the body Thursday morning during a physical education class. School officials immediately cleared the playground and counselors were sent to speak with the students.
The Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office is investigating. Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Michele Nicholson tells The Northwest Florida Daily News (http://bit.ly/S9Ve0a ) it appears to have been a suicide.
Authorities are waiting for results from the medical examiner’s office.
