Kris Allen Joins Bruce Springsteen For Little Kids Rock

Last night at an event honoring E Street band guitarist, Steven Van Zandt, Kris Allen earned the biggest compliment of his career.

The American Idol winner was asked to be a part of the event by Little Steven’s wife, Maureen. He became friends with the couple through his relationship with the night’s host, Little Kids Rock, a non-profit that works to restore and revitalize music education programs in U.S. public schools.

Allen admitted to CBS Local the night’s lineup, which included Elvis Costello, Darlene Love and (not-so) surprise guest, Bruce Springsteen, made it a dream gig for him.

“Everybody wants to meet The Boss, right?” Allen joked

In honor of Van Zandt, Allen sang “The Time Of Your Life,” from the 1995 film Nine Months, a personal request from the guest of honor.

Allen wasn’t familiar with the song so he worried he wouldn’t get it right and in front of Van Zandt none the less.

“There’s a lot of lyrics in the song, so I wanted to make sure that I didn’t screw it up,” he said. “But I think we rehearsed it twice and Stevie was there and was like, ‘Alright, that sounds good to me,’ so I felt like I prepared enough so that it was where it wasn’t terrible.”

Later on in the night, after Allen performed the song, the singer got a chance to speak with Springsteen, who came up to congratulate him on a job well done.

“He ended up coming up to me and goes, ‘Great job on the song man!’” Allen said. “I guess he was out there, so that was pretty cool.”

It turned out Bruce wasn’t the only one who enjoyed his rendition.

“People kept telling me I should record the song,” he said. “So maybe we’ll see what happens.”
