BOYNTON BEACH, Fla. (AP) — Authorities say an 11-year-old boy told Florida Highway Patrol troopers his mother drank three bottles of wine before crashing her car.
A highway report says 49-year-old Janet Malizia smashed into an SUV Friday night, then fled from the scene. Her children were not seriously injured.
Collier County jail records show she posted $7,500 bond Saturday. She faces charges of driving under the influence, property damage and leaving the scene of a crash. Jail records do not list an attorney.
Naples Daily News reports Malizia’s 11-year-old son handed investigators a cup of wine from inside the car and described how his mother bought the alcohol from a gas station. The mother told troopers she knew it was “wrong to be drinking with her kids in the car.”
