Buccaneers Need Panthers to Lose to Stay in Hunt
By Kyra Hallett
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are 1-3 on the year and in second place in their division. The Carolina Panthers are also 1-3 but in third place because the Bucs beat them in Week One. For the Bucs to move up in the standings in their bye week, they need all the teams in their division to lose.
Seattle Seahawks at Carolina Panthers
The biggest match-up this week for the Bucs will be the Panthers game. Since these two teams are in a virtual tie, the Bucs need the Seahawks to win to stay ahead of the Panthers. The Panthers are the favored team to win despite the Seahawks having a better record. The Bucs will not want to fall to third place in the week they are not even playing in.
The Seahawks have won some surprising games, the biggest was beating the Dallas Cowboys. If the Seahawks play like they did against the Cowboys, they have a chance. The Panthers are always a tough team to face due to quarterback Cam Newton and their strong front four on defense. The trick to win is to control those five players.
San Diego Chargers at New Orleans Saints
The next important game is the Saints, Chargers. The Saints have not won a game all season and the Bucs would like to keep it that way. If the Saints win, they will also have one win like the Bucs. The Saints are favored to win the game, even though the Chargers have a better record. The worst thing that could happen to the Bucs this week is if the Panthers and Saints win. The Bucs would drop to third place by themselves.
The Saints have been unlucky in the outcome of their games. The Chargers are winning their division and have looked strong in their first four games. The trick to beating the Saints is the defense. Quarterback Drew Brees throws for over 200 yards a game but the team has yet to win. The Chargers should be able to run all over them and quarterback Philip Rivers should have a big game.
Atlanta Falcons at Washington Redskins
The Falcons are undefeated so far this season. It would be nice if the Redskins could beat the Falcons. It would not help the Bucs a lot right now, but it could in the future. The Falcons are favored to win. If the Falcons do win, it would not hurt the Bucs that much either.
The Redskins have many weapons as the Bucs found out in Week Four. Quarterback Robert Griffin III can pretty much get out of any situation. He plays like a veteran quarterback. The Falcons have played very well and when they do make mistakes, they bounce back. The trick to this game is controlling both quarterbacks. Both Griffin and Matt Ryan can make big plays throughout the game.
The best thing for the Bucs on the bye week, is for all three teams in the division to lose. The Bucs will still be in the hunt if that happens but the biggest help would be for the Panthers to lose.
