Man Crashes Car After Fleeing From DUI Checkpoint

ST. CLOUD, Fla. (AP) — A man who fled from Osceola County deputies during a sobriety checkpoint has been released from the hospital — and booked into jail.

A sheriff’s office report says 51-year-old Donald Forrest Geraghty tried to avoid the DUI checkpoint around early Sunday morning and hit a deputy with his car. The deputy shot several fires and later stopped the car.

Geraghty was injured when his car crashed during the chase. He was also bitten by a K-9.

Jail records show he’s being held on $5,500 bail on charges including attempted murder on a law enforcement officer, aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, aggravated battery on a law enforcement officer and fleeing and eluding.

Authorities say he was also driving with a suspended license and pulled a knife on the deputy.
