Jay-Z And Rihanna To Join Coldplay For Paralympics Closing Ceremony

When Coldplay takes to the stage for the Paralympics’ closing ceremony Sunday (September 9), the melodic British rock group will be joined by two high profile artists from the worlds of hip-hop and dance music– Jay-Z  and Rihanna.

“They are putting together a spectacular set list – one likely to include a duet,” a source reportedly told the Daily Mirror. “It’s going to be one hell of a show, and fans of both artists will be clamoring for tickets.”

Of course, Jay and Rih Rih are no strangers to collaborating with members of Coldplay. Jay-Z recruited Martin to sing the hook on his 2006 Kingdom Come album track “Beach Chair.” And in addition to bringing Martin out during his 2010 Yankee Stadium concert to perfom the group’s hit “Clocks,” Jay hooked up with Coldplay to record a new version of the band’s 2008 single “Lost.”

As for Rihanna, the “Where Have You Been” singer paired up with Martin on the song and video for “Princess of China.” And she performed the aforementioned song with Coldplay on the 2012 Grammy Awards.

The London event, which kicked off on August 29, features athletes with physical, mobility, and mental disabilities from around the world competing in multi-sport events.

While this is the 14th installment of the Paralympics, the event began in Britain in 1948, when doctor Ludwig Guttmann organized an archery competition for World War II servicemen who were injured in the war. By 1960, the event had grown and to include other sporting activities. This year, the U.S. Paralympic team includes twenty wounded servicemen. —Keith Murphy, CBS Local
