TAMPA (CBS Tampa) — Real estate mogul and billionaire Donald Trump had to cancel his surprise for the Republican National Convention due to scheduling changes caused by Tropical Storm Isaac.
Trump had recently announced plans for a surprise at the RNC, being held this week in Tampa. However, threats of inclement weather caused organizers to change the schedule, either cancelling events planned for Monday, or moving them to other days.
The surprise was reportedly one of the events lost to storm preparations, The Washington Post learned.
According to Politico, Trump commented on the matter during an awards banquet hosted by the Sarasota GOP.
“They gave me a big role and I was looking forward – I was actually going to Tampa right after this, right after this dinner, but now I probably will be going back to New York,” he was quoted as saying. “I may come back but I’ll probably be going to New York after the dinner.”
Speculation surrounding the planned surprise included talk of Trump “firing” an impersonator of President Barack Obama.
