PALM CITY, Fla. (CBS Tampa) - A man arrested for driving under the influence told police that he was the son of an “Autobot,” the official term for the sentient robots occupying the imaginary world of the “Transformers” entertainment franchise.

Michael Rexford, 19, was pulled over around 5:30 a.m. on Aug. 12, when a deputy for the Martin County Sheriff’s Office saw his car, a Saturn, run a stop sign.

An arrest affidavit obtained by the Off the Beat blog maintained by TCPalm.com stated that the front right tire of the car was torn.

Rexford, who was wearing only gym shorts at the time of the stop, reportedly smelled of alcohol and told officers he was trying to get home since his car felt “woogity” due to the flat tire.

After handing the deputy his license – which he claimed was “expended” but turned out to be valid – and offering vague answers on where he was coming from, Rexford allegedly told officers that his father was an “Autobot,” and had the ability to fix the car.

The affidavit did not mention which Autobot Rexford thought was his father.

A breathalyzer test found that his blood alcohol level was over two times the legal limit. He was also not of age to be drinking alcohol.

Rexford was subsequently arrested and placed in jail on a DUI charge.
