Two Zephyrhills Kids Pulled From NY Canal Still in Hospital

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (AP) — Two young Florida children remain hospitalized in western New York after their stroller fell into the Erie Canal.

Rochester media outlets report that 8-year-old Sam Clanton is in satisfactory condition while his recently adopted sister Selah, also 8, is in guarded condition.

Rochester police say Jon Clanton of Zephyrhills, Fla., was pushing the children in a double stroller Wednesday afternoon when he lost control of it. The stroller rolled over a 10-foot embankment and into the canal.

Two Rochester police officers and three first-year medical students at a nearby picnic are credited with rescuing the two children and Clanton, a church pastor.

Clanton and his wife issued a statement Thursday thanking the rescuers. The couple says they’ve been bringing Sam to Rochester for treatment of a medical condition they didn’t divulge.
