Tampa police say four Hispanic males dressed as policemen tried to rob a Tampa jewelry store early Friday morning. The suspects managed to get away, and the investigation is still underway.

The attempted robbery took place at Marcelo’s Jewelry, 3117 W. Columbus Drive at approximately 8 a.m. Marcelo Suarez was working and saw the suspects drive into the parking lot in a green or blue four-door Saturn. The vehicle had flashing lights on the front dash that resembled those of a police car.

The four suspects also wore clothing that said “police” on them. Under the impression that they were law enforcement, Suarez buzzed them in the front door of his business. According to authorities, he immediately realized they were not police upon seeing them. Gun fire was exchanged, and Suarez was not injured.

Police are now reviewing surveillance video and looking for the green or blue Saturn.
