FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (CBS Tampa) – There is only so many speaking spots to go around at the Republican National Convention. So, when Rep. Allen West makes the drive to Tampa for the convention, he could very well be selling hot dogs just to be a part of it.
West, a Republican congressman representing Broward and Palm Beach Counties, indicated that although he is not scheduled to speak at next month’s convention, he’ll be there in some form – even if that means being a hot dog vendor.
“I want everyone to know if you come to the Republican Convention I’ll be selling hot dogs,” West said Thursday, according to a tweet from freelance reporter Matt Laslo.
West’s communications director would confirm to Politico that the congressman’s quip was indeed a joke, but not before having some fun with it.
“Congressman West will not be selling hotdogs outside of the Convention hall, even though we all like the idea of opening The Colonel’s Hotdogs since we’re pretty confident we could do it on our own,” Angela Melvin wrote in an email to Politico. “They would be beef hot dogs and condiments would be free.”
