Cops: Teenage Mom Ditches 1-Year-Old Son At Walmart After Caught Stealing

OCALA, Fla. (CBS Tampa) — A teenage mother is accused of ditching her 1-year-old son at a Florida Walmart after trying to steal merchandise from the store.

Ocala authorities arrested Allison Niemeyer, 19, and her sister Laura Niemeyer, 22, for the Friday incident.

The Gainesville Sun reports a Walmart store officer found the two stuffing more than $50 in merchandise into a diaper bag. When the loss prevention officer confronted the sisters, they ran into a parking lot into an awaiting van, leaving the little boy behind.

The paper reports the sisters were taken into custody Saturday outside of a dance club.

Central Florida News 13 reports that both sisters were charged with felony child neglect and retail theft. Allison Niemeyer was also currently under house arrest until 2021 for a 2010 robbery.

The child is currently in custody of the Department of Children and Families.
