TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) — Authorities in Tallahassee say a man is dead after breaking into two houses and stealing three cars before crashing into a ditch.

Deputies with the Leon County Sheriff’s Office say the chain of events began Saturday at 6 a.m. when the man broke into a house and assaulted someone inside.

The Tallahassee Democrat reports the man left and broke into another home nearby. He allegedly got into a confrontation with the homeowners and stole their black sedan.

Investigators say the man crashed into a tree. When a passing motorist stopped to help, he forced the man out of vehicle and sped away.

He crashed again and forced the occupants of another car that stopped to help out and took off. He crashed that vehicle and died at the scene.

According to the Tallahassee Democrat Lt. James McQuaig said, “The suspects death was a tragic loss of life.”  and “Even if this guy is a bad guy, he’s still a human being.”
