TAMPA, Fla. (AP) — A man accused of plotting terror attacks in Tampa has fired his two criminal defense attorneys.

Federal Judge Anthony Porcelli said on Friday that Sami Osmakac could fire his attorneys, but said that the trial would not necessarily be postponed.

Osmakac told Porcelli his family is trying to raise money to hire a new lawyer.

The Kosovo-born American citizen is charged with attempting to use weapons of mass destruction in connection with an alleged militant Islamic plot.

Authorities say Osmakac planned to use a car bomb and other weapons to attack various locations around Tampa.

He is being held without bail in a Pinellas County jail.
