PALM CITY, Fla. (AP) — Authorities say a central Florida woman was hospitalized and her dogs died after they were attacked by a swarm of bees.
Martin County Fire Rescue reports the woman was going for a walk Monday morning when she was attacked near a vacant lot. Nearby lawn workers tried to help the woman. Fire rescue crews responded and took the woman to a nearby hospital.
Officials say one of the dogs died at the scene, white the other died at a veterinary clinic. Officials say both dogs were pugs.
The woman’s name wasn’t immediately released, and it wasn’t clear what her condition was.
Insect experts weren’t sure how many bees attacked the woman and her pets, only guessing the number was in the thousands.
