Florida Governor Cancels Events Due To Tropical Storm

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) — Florida Gov. Rick Scott is cancelling a visit to Tampa and heading back to the state capital due to Tropical Storm Debby.

Scott had planned to tour a medical center and a work site on Monday. But the governor is heading to the state’s emergency operations center.

The storm — which is hovering in the Gulf of Mexico — has drenched the state and spawned tornadoes that have killed at least one person.

Scott has not yet declared a state of emergency even though the storm is responsible for flooding in the Tampa Bay area.

Panhandle emergency management officials have already advised residents to leave low-lying areas and they have shut down the bride to St. George Island, a popular vacation area.
