Private Island In Florida Goes Up On Auction Block

FORT MYERS, Fla. (CBS Tampa) — Want to buy an island?

Fisher Auction Company is auctioning off a 1.4-acre private island in the Caloosahatchee River in Fort Myers.

“This is really secluded. It’s direct access to the Gulf of Mexico,” Lamar Fisher, CEO of the auction company, told WINK-TV. “It’s all here. Just use your imagination with what you want to do with it.”

The island went on the block Monday. Bidding will end Thursday at 2 p.m. ET.

The auction company says on its website that the private island offers an “excellent location for a private island estate” and “breathtaking 360 degree riverfront views.”

You’d better have deep pockets to qualify for the bidding process, as the auction company wants a $50,000 escrow deposit wired to the settlement agent. The property value of the island itself has been assessed at $42,000.

Fisher doesn’t know how high the bidding will get for this land.

“That’s what the auction provides,” Fisher told WINK, “that opportunity to let people bid competitively, to know what the bids are and to bid spiritedly.”
