EAST NAPLES, Fla. (CBS Tampa) – A woman reportedly choked her boyfriend when he declined her marriage proposal. According to Naples News, she popped the question in order to avoid deportation.
On Saturday, authorities from the Collier County Sheriff’s Office arrested 24-year-old Nikoleta Karoly for the attack.
The arrest report obtained by the Naples News said that Karoly’s visa had expired the previous week. In order to avoid being deported, she asked her boyfriend to marry her.
He allegedly told authorities that he was hesitant to tie the knot, due to her history of violent behavior. The couple had another fight about her residency three weeks ago, which ended in her punching him.
When he turned her down, she reportedly began to choke and scratch him, and slapped him hard enough for him to suffer from a residual ringing in his ears.
Police also found that Karoly had threatened to stab her boyfriend if he still wouldn’t marry her. She was subsequently arrested, and faces domestic violence charges.
Karoly’s country of origin was not reported.
