3 Killed After Migrant Van Crashes In Central Fla.

ORMOND BEACH, Fla. (AP) — Authorities say a van carrying more than a dozen Haitian migrant farmworkers flipped over on a central Florida highway, killing three.

Florida Highway Patrol Sgt. Kim Montes says the farmworkers were traveling to New Jersey for work in a 15-passenger van.

Montes says one of the van’s tires separated around 7:40 a.m. Sunday, causing the driver to lose control on Interstate 95 near the Volusia-Flagler county line.

The van flipped over multiple times, ejecting some of the passengers. Montes says two men and one woman died at the scene.

Montes says two passengers were hospitalized in critical condition. Nine other passengers were taken to hospitals with varying degrees of injuries.

According to FHP’s report, the van’s 57-year-old driver suffered minor injuries.

Montes says a language barrier has complicated the investigation.
