ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) — A 250-pound black bear is back in the wild after trekking through metro Orlando last weekend.
Wildlife officials say that the young male black bear trekked through metro Orlando for more than a day and a half before wandering into downtown last Sunday afternoon.
There, wildlife officers tranquilized the bear just two blocks from the Amway Center, home of the Orlando Magic. The bear was then relocated several hours later to the Ocala National Forest.
The bear was first spotted by Orlando residents Friday night. Orlando police officers kept an eye on the bear as it moved around town. At one point police officers even closed off the busy East-West Expressway for a short time in the middle of the night so the bear could cross the highway.
