FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (AP) — The former owner of a South Florida brothel known as the “Boom Boom Room” will be spending the rest of his life in federal prison for sex trafficking of minors and production of child porn.
A judge in Fort Lauderdale imposed the life sentence Monday on 35-year-old James Mozie, who was convicted on 10 charges last December.
Prosecutors say Mozie recruited girls between 13 and 17 to work as prostitutes at the brothel. Some testified at his trial that Mozie warned them not to reveal their ages to customers. Several said Mozie required them to have sex with him as part of what he called their orientation.
Testimony also showed Mozie attached sexually explicit photos of the girls to text messages he used as advertisement.
