Gov. Scott Announces New Plan Of Tracking State Government Emails

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) — Florida Gov. Rick Scott is announcing a new plan to keep track of state government emails.

Scott is scheduled to discuss “Project Sunburst” on Thursday.

The Scott administration did not wish to discuss details ahead of time, but emails recently obtained by The Associated Press show top officials working for the governor are also now addressed to “sunburst.”

When asked about it, Scott’s chief of staff said that “sunburst” was a secret.

The move by Scott comes nearly nine months after he orrdered an investigation into why emails he wrote before he was sworn in as governor were deleted. That investigation is expected to be finished soon.

Scott recently signed into law a measure requiring statewide officials to preserve emails between Election Day and when they are sworn into office.
