TAMPA (CBS Tampa) – A Facebook page seemingly associated with the Occupy Tampa movement posted a culturally insensitive cartoon image of a Jewish man on Thursday.

The image features a caricature of the man with the Star of David emblazoned on his top hat and a large nose and beard, using the United Nations’ emblem as a steering wheel and the head of President Barack Obama as a gear shift.

The website Haaretz.com is reporting that the photo received hundreds of comments after it appeared, most of them expressing anger over the posting.

“Putting this on Holocaust day just makes it even more sickening than it already is,” one user allegedly wrote.

However, another Occupy Tampa page – the reported official one – states that the posting occurred on another page not associated with the group in any way.

“To the City of Tampa, to the Occupy Movement and to the general public, this page … is the official Occupy Tampa Facebook Page manage it for the media working group,” the message states, adding a link to the reportedly erroneous page. “The [image] was post[ed] on a non-related Occupy Tampa or Occupy Wall Street working group. We don’t know the origin or the intentions of this website.”

The image in question did not appear on either page as of 10:30 p.m. EST.
