Man Killed By Commuter Train While Walking Along The Tracks

DEERFIELD BEACH, Fla. (AP) — Authorities say a Tri-Rail commuter train struck and killed a man who was pushing a bicycle along the tracks.

The Broward Sheriff’s Office says the man was killed instantly Thursday when the train hit him near Deerfield Beach.

Investigators say the Trial-Rail train was carrying 130 passengers when the engineer spotted a man walking south along the track. The train was also heading south as the horn sounded. But the man didn’t move from the train’s path, and was struck.

The Broward County Medical Examiner’s Office will conduct an autopsy on the man, who appeared to be in his 50s. The victim has not yet been identified.

Officials say no one else was injured in the crash.
