MANATEE COUNTY, Fla. (CBS Tampa) – A female inmate tried to fight a deputy by biting him, only to lose her front teeth in the process.
Bay News 9 is reporting that 25-year-old Erin Babich was being escorted to her cell after an arrest, but refused to get up from her chair so the deputy could lead her away.
She struggled, then pulled away from deputies, before trying to hit them with her fists. It was then that deputies tried to restrain her.
As they held her down, Babich reportedly bit one of them in the arm, and her two front teeth fell out as she released her grip.
The deputy was treated by jail staff, then taken to Manatee Memorial Hospital, after his arm began to bleed and swell from the injury.
Babich was charged with both aggravated battery and assault and intimidation of a law enforcement officer, which was added to the unrelated charges for which she had been imprisoned in the first place.
According to the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office website, Babich was arrested and initially brought in last Thursday for outstanding out-of-county felony warrants.
She is being held on two bonds totalling $15,000.
