TAMPA, Fla. (CBS Tampa) - Mango Elementary School teacher Ethel Anderson pleaded not guilty to charges of molesting a boy that she tutored.
Court records show that Anderson, 29, was scheduled to be arraigned in court on Wednesday, but she entered a written not guilty plea and did not appear.
The fifth-grade teacher was arrested on February 29 and charged with three counts of lewd or lascivious battery and two counts of lewd or lascivious molestation, according to arrest records. She was released on $50,000 bail.
According to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office, detectives began investigating the incident when the 12-year-old boy’s mother notified police that she believed her son was having a sexual relationship with his tutor.
Court documents revealed a secretly recorded conversation in which Anderson admitted to performing oral sex on the boy twice and allowing the boy to touch her.
It is unclear if the person speaking with Anderson in the recording was the boy or his mother.
The sheriff’s office reported that the alleged incidents occurred in Anderson’s home located in Riverview.
