BRANDON, Fla. (CBS Tampa) –  A Brandon man was arrested Tuesday after deputies found $168,000 worth of marijuana growing in his home located only 100 feet from Horace Mann Middle School, according to police reports.

Just before 6 a.m. on Tuesday, police searched Arianny Salvia-Cartaya’s home located at 308 Larson Avenue.  Deputies found three rooms full of lights, fans and a secondary AC unit used for growing marijuana.  The grow house contained 54 marijuana plants, which weighed a total of 42 pounds.

In order to supply the grow house with energy, Salvia-Cartaya tapped into a TECO main service which allowed for unmetered electricity.  Police also found about $7,600 in cash, a 2003 Ford truck and two firearms.

Salvia-Cartaya, 29, admitted to police that he grew the marijuana.  Arrest records show the defendant faces charges of possession of marijuana with the intent to sell, trafficking and manufacturing of marijuana, owning or renting property with the purpose of trafficking, possession of drug paraphernalia and the theft of electricity.
