By Allison Mondell, CBS Tampa

TAMPA, Fla. (CBS Tampa) –  A Tampa man shot and killed his terminally ill wife in their home on Tuesday, according to Hillsborough County deputies.

At 12:10 p.m. on Tuesday, the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office received a call from 61-year-old Randall Walton Willis, who said he had shot his wife.  Willis said he would put away his gun and wait for the police to come.  When deputies arrived, they found Willis on the porch of his home, still on the phone with dispatchers.  Inside,  61-year-old Gilda Willis was found dead.

After hearing his Miranda rights, police said Willis admitted to shooting his wife once in the head and once in the chest.  According to deputies, it appeared that Willis thought he was preventing his wife from suffering further in her illness.

Willis is being held in the Orient road jail and has been charged with second degree murder with a firearm.  A search warrant is being obtained so detectives can further investigate the incident.
