Police: Tampa Man Shoots and Kills Terminally Ill Wife

By Allison Mondell, CBS Tampa

TAMPA, Fla. (CBS Tampa) –  A Tampa man shot and killed his terminally ill wife in their home on Tuesday, according to Hillsborough County deputies.

At 12:10 p.m. on Tuesday, the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office received a call from 61-year-old Randall Walton Willis, who said he had shot his wife.  Willis said he would put away his gun and wait for the police to come.  When deputies arrived, they found Willis on the porch of his home, still on the phone with dispatchers.  Inside,  61-year-old Gilda Willis was found dead.

After hearing his Miranda rights, police said Willis admitted to shooting his wife once in the head and once in the chest.  According to deputies, it appeared that Willis thought he was preventing his wife from suffering further in her illness.

Willis is being held in the Orient road jail and has been charged with second degree murder with a firearm.  A search warrant is being obtained so detectives can further investigate the incident.

The real murderer here is the American health scare system which is a national disgrace.

I have lived in three continents and can not think of another civilized nation where a man would have been forced to kill his wife to spare her the pain caused by a lack of medical assistance when it was needed the most. It is amazing how Americans fatalistically accept such outrages as their inevitable destiny and keep stubbornly keep opposing Universal Health Care for fear of losing their precious “freedom” to go bankrupt to pay for medical expenses.

If Obama did not blow his chance to push for Medicare for all Americans when the political climate was favorable instead of making nice to the Health Scare cartel, this tragedy would never have happened.

When I first read this report, it also mentioned that their health insurance company had cancelled their policy and, as a result, the couple was no longer able to pay for the high medical costs including desperately needed medicine and lost everything including their home. Typical American health scare story.

As a result, this man was pushed beyond the very limits of human endurance and resorted to the only means he could think of to end the agony of his beloved spouse and braved the predictable consequences in a supreme act of self-sacrifice.

And now the very same society which refused to pay for the help at his time of dire need will think nothing of spending all the money in the world to paint him as a criminal and righteously punish him for murder.

The report seems to have been edited and sanitized since then and those unpalatable parts left out. Very interesting.
