TAMPA, Fla. (AP) — The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have signed All-Pro guard Carl Nicks and cornerback Eric Wright to five-year contracts.
Nicks was one of the key blockers for Drew Brees on the Saints’ record-setting offense. He’s considered one of the best pass blockers in the NFL. He made the Pro Bowl the last two seasons.
Wright, a five-year veteran, was with the Lions last season after spending four years in Cleveland. He had 73 tackles, four interception and 16 passes defensed in starting all 16 games in 2011.
The Bucs announced the signings Wednesday, one day after they landed wide receiver Vincent Jackson on the first day of free agency.
Tampa Bay finished 4-12 with one of the worst offenses and defenses in the league last season.
