JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP) — Jacksonville Police say a 17-month-old boy was killed by a dog in a neighbor’s yard.
Dylan Andres got away from his mother Friday morning as she was unpacking groceries. He wandered into a neighbor’s yard across the street and was attacked by the dog, which was chained to a pole in the front yard.
The Florida Times-Union reports that the dog was a Rottweiler. Reports say the child was bitten in the neck repeatedly, until Dylan’s father pulled the dog away.
Neighbors took the boy and his mother to a nearby hospital hospital, where the boy was pronounced dead.
Police say the dog will be euthanized. Officials say they have no prior reports of problems with the dog, whose owner was not home at the time of the attack.
