SPRING HILL, Fla. (CBS Tampa) – Hernando County Sheriff’s Office says human remains were found Thursday in a wooded area in Spring Hill.

A Sheriff’s report states that a man walking his dog in the area of Lema and Gretna Drive called them Thursday to report he had stumbled upon a human skull.

Upon responding to the call deputies say the man directed them to the bones located in a wooded area near some power lines. Upon searching the area a skull and other scattered bones were located.

A Sheriff’s Office press release states, “the Medical Examiner Investigator has taken custody of the bones, which were transported to the Leesburg Medical Examiner’s Office for examination.”

Corporal Wendy McGinnis stated “detectives be following up on items discovered at the scene in an attempt to identify the victim and determine the cause and approximate time of death”. She added “ that no further information is available at this time”.
