TAMPA, Fla. (CBS Tampa) -  Hillsborough County detectives are investigating a fatal hit and run case that is linked to a HART bus driver.

On February 20, Eric A. Lewis was hit and killed by a vehicle when he was walking in the roadway of 79th Street near Fir Drive.  Lewis was wearing dark clothing and experienced fatal upper body trauma.  The vehicle’s impact was low-speed.

Early this morning, HART bus driver Steven Rickert contacted the Sheriff’s Office after he had watched media reports of the incident.  Rickert indicated he may have been responsible for the crash.  He was driving a bus during the time the crash occurred.

The Sheriff’s Office reported that traffic homicide detectives met with Rickert and examined the bus.  They found physical evidence that linked the bus to Lewis.  The investigation will continue as detectives further examine evidence.
