TARPON SPRINGS, Fla. (CBS Tampa) – A kayaker reported missing was found safe Sunday after he spent a chilly night stuck on a small island.

David Stephen Hoffmann Jr., 25,  launched his 15-foot single-passenger kayak into the water Saturday near Bayshore Drive and was found early Sunday returning to shore. According to the sheriff’s report Hoffman got caught in a low tide and spent the night on a nearby island waiting until the water was high enough to return to shore.

Temperatures Sunday morning were in the low to mid 60’s.

The Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office and the U.S. Coast Guard helped in the overnight search for Hoffman.
