Coast Guard Rescues Three Boaters Near Cedar Key

CLEARWATER, Fla. (CBS Tampa) –  The U.S. Coast Guard rescued three boaters early this morning after the men had been in the water for more than eleven hours.

The three unidentified men were found clinging to their capsized catamaran’s hull around 4:30 a.m.  The Tampa Bay Times reported that a concerned family member called 911 Sunday night when the men did not return home.  The men set sail from Cedar Key and planned to sail to Atsena Otie Key.

The Coast Guard’s seven-hour search for the men came to a close when a rescue helicopter spotted the boaters and a rescue swimmer was sent down.  The men were without emergency equipment on board and the boat had no motor or lights.

No injuries have been reported at this time.
