Police: 12-Year-Old Passes Out Tequila-Soaked Gummy Bears At School
PALM COAST, Fla. (CBS Tampa) — A middle school student has been suspended for 10 days after bringing alcohol-tainted gummy bears to school and passing them out to classmates.
According to a Flagler County Sheriff’s Office report obtained by CBS Tampa, a 12-year-old boy from Indian Trails Middle School brought a Tupper ware bowl filled with gummy bears soaked in alcohol to school on Feb. 9.
The student stated to police that he found the bowl near his bus stop. He said he did try one, didn’t like it and that they “were all sticky.”
While passing them out to students during lunch, one girl told the student that “it smells like alcohol.” He told her he sprayed cologne in it, but soon relented and told her it was tequila.
Principal Vernon Orndorff said the student got the idea to soak the gummy bears in tequila while watching the news.
“This particular student watched it on the news a couple of nights before and saw the recipe,” Orndorff told The Daytona Beach News-Journal.
The Indian Trails student will not face any charges for the incident.
