TAMPA, Fla. (CBS Tampa) – Deputies in Lake Wales are looking for a 19-year old man in connection with the death of his grandmother.

Jasper Aristotle Smiddie, 19, allegedly called his father saying he killed his grandmother 67-year-old Gloria Helfrinch.

According law enforcement, Helfrinch was found dead a short time later in the house that she shared with Smiddie.

Although there is no clear-cut motive for the murder, there is speculation that Smiddie might have been using his grandmothers credit cards without her permission. Plus, Smiddie was arrested for interference with child custody two weeks prior to his grandmother’s death.

According to the arrest report, Smiddle had hidden his 14-year-old run-away girlfriend in his bedroom at his grandmother’s house. The girl was later returned to her family after the incident.

A statewide alert has been issued for Smiddie. He may be driving a silver 2006 Toyota RAV-4 SUV with Florida tag N59 9GP.

Anyone who spots Smiddie is asked to call 911 immediately.
