TAMPA, Fla. (CBS Tampa) – An Alabama woman is being held in the Hillsborough Country Jail pending federal charges for human trafficking.
21-year-old Kathleen Roberson, of Phenix, Ala., was originally pulled over and arrested Saturday night on Falkenburg Road because the Kia Sorrento she was driving was without tags.
The Hillsborough sheriff’s arrest report states that when Roberson was arrested she had no valid driver license and she was carrying $6,000 in cash. The report went on to say that another woman from Alabama, Jessica Roland, 29, was determined to be in possession of a small amount of cocaine and was also arrested.
Also in the car with Roberson and Roland’s were five Mexican citizens that were found to be in the United States illegally. The arresting deputy stated during further investigation, he determined that Roberson was transporting the Mexicans from Alabama to Immokalee, Florida.
Roberson was booked into the Hillsborough County Jail without bond. Federal charges of human trafficking are pending. According to arrest report the other woman in the car, Jessica Roland, was also booked at the jail on possession of cocaine charges.
The five people discovered to be illegal immigrants and are being held at the jail pending deportation.
