Suspects Wanted in Wimauma Shooting

WIMAUMA, Fla. (CBS Tampa) – Hillsborough County Police Officers are searching for three suspects after a man was shot Sunday in Wimauma.

According to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office report, Alejandro Rios, of 2600 West Lake Drive, was standing in the front yard of 5219 Vernice Street at 1:16 p.m. when a gold or brown Dodge SUV drove by the yard.  The suspects called out Rios’ name and stopped the vehicle.  As the men in the SUV exited, one suspect pulled out a handgun and fired several times.  Only one shot hit Rios in the stomach.

The victim was taken to South Bay Hospital and later transported to Tampa General Hospital.  He is in critical condition.  Sunday was Rios’ 26th birthday.

The suspects are described as three Hispanic males between 15 and 17 years of age.  Anyone with knowledge of the identities or whereabouts of the suspects is asked to call the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office at 813- 247-8200 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-873-TIPS.
