Doctor Sentenced for Pills Distribution

ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) — A central Florida doctor has been sentenced to 25 years in prison for helping distribute prescription pills in the Sarasota area.

Dr. Jose Carlos Menendez-Campos was sentenced Friday. He must also pay a $500,000 fine.

Campos pleaded guilty to conspiring to traffic in 28 grams or more of oxycodone.

State and local detectives began investigating Campos in 2010. Their investigation showed that Campos was selling the painkiller to a group of associates who then filled prescriptions and distributed the pills on the streets of Sarasota.
