Deputies Arrest Tampa Man after Truck Chase

TAMPA, Fla. (AP) — A Tampa man is under arrest after authorities say he stole a 25-foot box truck and led deputies on a chase that lasted more than an hour.

Johnny Ray May has been charged with aggravated battery and assault on a law enforcement officer, grand theft and burglary.

The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office says the manager of Nortrax John Deere Forestry Equipment reported a truck stolen Saturday at about 9 p.m.

A deputy spotted the truck five minutes later and began following it. Deputies were able to stop the truck, but the driver then accelerated forward, crashing into a patrol car and nearly hitting a deputy a short time later.

The pursuit then began again. Deputies deflated the truck’s tires and the vehicle finally stopped after reaching a dirt road.
