Cops: Chainsaw-Wielding Florida Man Assaults 4 Women

LAND O’LAKES, Fla. (CBS Tampa) – It wasn’t a massacre, but police say one chainsaw-wielding Florida man had his sights set on assaulting several women with the power tool.

Scott Gilbreth, 50, was arrested Tuesday for assaulting and threatening four women with a chainsaw.

On Monday, Gilbreth pulled his truck up beside the first woman as she was walking along Glenhaven Road, telling her to get into the “[freaking] truck,” according to a Pasco County Sheriff’s report. When she refused, Gilbreth retrieved a chainsaw from the back of the truck and started it up, telling her he would “cut (her) head off,” the woman told authorities. Then, Gilbreth grabbed the woman by the throat and pushed her in to the truck, explaining to her that they were going to his friend “Bubby’s” house.

Upon pulling up to a home on Glenwood Drive, the woman ran out of the truck to seek the help of “Bubby.” Gilbreth would batter another woman in the residence by grabbing her by the arm and dragging her from room to room. But when Gilbreth was informed that “Bubby” was in jail, he went outside and retrieved his red chainsaw yet again, assaulting three of the four women present. Another woman accused Gilbreth of punching her in the right side of the face as he was swinging the chainsaw like he was going to use it on her.

“[Woman], I’m going to kill you and then chop you up and throw you in the woods,” Gilbreth told the woman he hit in the face, according to the police report.

After hitting the woman in the face, he reportedly got back in his truck and backed out of the driveway, hitting a dumpster in the process.

The other women agree that Gilbreth was swinging the chainsaw like he was going to use it on them. At one point, the chainsaw came within four inches of one woman’s neck, according to the police report. When police did arrive, they actually were able to find the man known as “Bubby,” who refused to speak to police as “he was going to get a gun and shoot Scott in the face,” according to police.

Nobody was seriously injured in the incident, Doug Toobin, public information officer for Pasco County Sheriff’s Office, told CBS Tampa.

Gilbreth has been charged with felony kidnapping aggravated assault, simple battery, and burglary.
