2 Arrests in Death of Woman Found Floating in Lake

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) — Two 21-year-old men are accused of killing a woman whose body was found floating in a St. Petersburg lake on Christmas Day.

St. Petersburg police arrested Letrell McKnight and Santonio Smith late Wednesday after receiving a tip that the men beat 42-year-old Stacia Kay Berman to death in an apartment on Dec. 24.

Police say the men stuffed Berman’s body into the trunk of a vehicle and drove to Lake Maggiore, where they put her in the water.

Authorities say several witnesses saw the beating.

According to a police report, both men confessed. They told police Berman had stolen shoes from them before the beating.

McKnight and Smith are charged with second-degree murder.

Police say they anticipate additional arrests.
