Tourists Find Severed Leg On St. Petersburg Beach

St. Petersburg, Fla. (CBS Tampa) — Tourists in St. Petersburg may have stumbled on a potential murder mystery.

A clean-shaven leg with no tattoos and no foot washed ashore near4th Street South Tuesday morning. Although police are not sure that the woman was murdered, they aren’t ruling it out either.

“The nature of the business is that we assume the worst and we are doing that until we receive information to the contrary,” St. Petersburg Public Information Officer Michael Puetz told CBS Tampa.

There is also difficulty in tracking where the leg came from.

“It’s wide open waterfront. It reaches all the way across to Manatee County. Cruise ships go by here all the time as well,” a neighbor told WTSP-TV.

Detectives are currently combing through missing person cases, as medical examiners are checking the leg for clues into the age and race of the woman.
