Cops: Man Steals Woman’s Car While On Date At Movies

WESLEY CHAPEL, Fla. (CBS Tampa) — A second date seems to be out of the question after a New Port Richey man is accused of stealing a woman’s car while taking her out to the movies.

Michael Pratt, 27, was arrested and charged with grand theft for the Dec. 7 incident.

The victim told the Pasco County Sheriff’s Office that Pratt asked for the keys to her car so he can put something in the vehicle while they were at the movies. The victim says that after Pratt didn’t come back after being away for a half hour, she left the theater and realized her car was gone.

Police say when the victim reached out to Pratt to find out where he was, Pratt said, “Ha, ha, I stole your car,” and hung up on her. She subsequently spent two days trying to call Pratt before going to authorities.

Pratt ended up ditching the car in a Walmart parking lot, according to a police report obtained by CBS Tampa. Pratt was arrested on Dec. 14.

He is being held on $5,000 bond at the Pasco Detention Facility.
