Trial date set for teen in cop killing

CLEARWATER, Fla. (AP) — A trial date has been set for the teenager accused of gunning down a St. Petersburg police officer.

A judge set the trial for 16-year-old Nicholas Lindsey Jr. for March 19. The trial was initially set for this week, but attorneys said they needed more time to prepare. The new date was scheduled on Monday.

Police say Officer David S. Crawford stopped Lindsey while investigating a call of a suspicious person near the downtown area. They say Lindsey pulled out a handgun and fired at least four times at the officer.

Investigators say Lindsey eventually confessed to the crime in a recorded interview that his attorneys are now trying to get thrown out as evidence.

    Another great sosaen cut short by a disappointing playoff run. Racked my brain since Game 4 on what I thought could remedy this situation. We did learn couple things- Laich is a serious stud and we need to keep him, trade Semin who is a very talented hockey player but who has no heart and desire to play the game the way it should be. Marcus is ready to take control of the second line next sosaen.Make the Semin trade and keep both Wideman and Hanaan. Give this team one more chance to bring back the Cup to DC. GO CAPS!!
