Cindy Sherman and MAC Cosmetics introduce their new makeup campaign based on a trio of images that require a double take after strolling past the makeup counter.
These unconventional images picture designer Sherman herself posing in bizarre and outlandish clown colored makeup. Is MAC trying to sell makeup or parodying how not to use it? We’ve all seen it: The crimes of the caked on “clown” makeup, makeup as the answer to the look of youth and makeup painted on enough to change the look of any given feature.
It is a breath of fresh air from the foreseeable beautiful faces at the other beauty counters who try and convince us that we too can have a photo shopped face if we just by the product! Instead, we fight back feeling inferior, ugly, and more likely to reach for their purse.
This isn’t the first MAC attack that has had us surprised. MAC has partnered with Lady Gaga, Missy Elliott, Elton John and many more that are known for being artistic and revolutionary in their field. Is this a convincing message to transform yourself or just an eccentric gag to sell brightly colored makeup?
Have you bought any of Sherman’s products? We want to hear what you think!
